Client/Owner: King County METRO
Location: Seattle, WA
Cost: $4,800,000 (Total Contract Value)

This elevated walkway is located immediately adjacent to Seattle's King Street Station and crosses all nine mainline railroad tracks and spurs. It provides pedestrian access from the north Qwest Field (Seahawk Stadium) parking lot to the elevated portion of 4th Avenue. The project consisted of a 200-foot three-span steel girder covered pedestrian bridge with a cast-in-place concrete deck. The stadium approach to the bridge is an intricate split-stair structure of cast-in-place concrete with office, storage, maintenance facilities, and restrooms below, and an elevator through the center. The ornate stair structure itself features brick cladding, artwork, and recessed lighting. The bridge section is covered and enclosed with an equally ornate framework incorporating additional artwork and lighting. The project location necessitated extensive coordination with the railroads, including full railroad safety training for all personnel. Further location challenges included an active six lane road to the east, an active train station to the north and active stadium construction to the south. Consequently, laydown and staging areas were extremely limited.
