This portion of the 18-mile Westside MAX extension, known as the Blue Line, provides light rail transit service between downtown Portland and the suburbs of Beaverton and Hillsboro. Daily ridership averages 28,400 passengers. Running parallel to Highway 26, sound walls were constructed working with limited access and the hazard of numerous overhead power lines. Tieback-anchored tangent pile retaining walls finished the East Portal's 500-foot-long cut and cover tunnel structure. The West Portal included architectural finishes or stone facings on both the tieback-anchored soldier pile retaining walls and the cantilever retaining walls. The West Vent Shaft Headhouse was constructed to contain permanent mechanical and electrical equipment.
