Westlake Park was conceived as a showcase project located in the heart of downtown Seattle. This project included reconstruction of the roadway with reinforced concrete to support multi-colored cut stone pavers placed to exacting tolerance; a stone-clad stainless steel waterwall incorporating computer controlled colored lights and simulated fog displays; a cast-in-place reinforced concrete vault used as the mechanical room for the waterwall’s pumps and systems; a large stone arch and numerous stone sculptures; benches fabricated from Burmese teak; custom ornamental lighting; and electrical and storm sewer systems. The work was performed on an intense 6-month schedule without interrupting access to businesses, pedestrian foot traffic, or vehicular movement.
