Client/Owner: City of Kent
Location: Kent, WA
Cost: $6,500,000 (Total Contract Value)

As part of a new alignment intended to improve freight access from the industrial area of the Kent Valley to I-5, this contract was for construction of a 356’ bridge across the Green River, the most difficult section of the new corridor.  The three span structure included 70’ precast concrete girder end spans and a 210’ steel plate girder span over the river.  To protect the river and marine life, pre-assembly of the bridge on the bank of the river and setting the plate girder pairs with a ‘Transi-Lift’ crane was required.  The crane configuration included 850 tons of counterweight consisting of steel tubs filled with aggregate.  To assemble the mega crane it took the combined efforts of twelve men, a 150-ton crawler, a 100-ton crawler, a 40-ton hydraulic, two boom trucks, two forklifts and three man-lifts.  Forty (40) semi-truck loads of crane parts were brought to the site in a choreographed schedule.  Four plate girder pairs were ultimately erected in one shift.
