This project involves the addition of two ramps from the median area of I-90 to the east and west sides of the existing 142nd Place SE Bridge (formally 136th Place SE). This structure was originally built by Mowat in 1975. The new structures will allow for bus and HOV users in both directions of I-90 to access 142nd Place and the Eastgate Park and Ride without crossing the general purpose lanes to exit the highway. In order to accommodate these new ramps, seven structural earth walls, one soldier pile retaining wall, and two bridge structures were constructed. The west ramp is the longest ramp at approximately 1100 LF with structural earth walls forming a U-shaped ramp that butts into the precast girder bridge structure. The east ramp is the shorter ramp at less than 600 LF. A soldier pile retaining wall was constructed along the outside shoulder of east bound I-90 to increase the roadway area. Drainage, illumination, and ITS work were reconfigured. Architectural features such as the exposed aggregate finishes and life-sized casting of salmon enhance project aesthetics.
