This project is an HOV project widening four bridges and 0.75 mile of roadway.  The bridges varied between 200 – 240 LF in length and 20 – 80 LF in width all above local roadways.  Roadway sections were widened to the inside and outside of both eastbound and westbound and included both asphalt and cement concrete pavements.  The project also included several large retaining walls, erosion control, extensive grading, utility, electrical, asphalt pavement, cement concrete pavement and pavement marking.  Highway 16 in Tacoma has some of the worst traffic problems in the state.  Through careful management and added resources of traffic control supervision, material and equipment the project was delivered timely and safely.

Customer Quote: “Mowat clearly placed a high priority on the safety of their employees.  The contractor held weekly safety meetings for the on site employees.  Mandatory use of hardhats, safety vests and safety glasses for employees was rigidly adhered to.  Mowat rewarded employees for safe work performance through recognition gifts such as hats, mugs and gift certificates.
